Bill Montgomery and President Beverley attended the PKC Read Awards on 2nd April, 2025.
The event was attended by eight secondary schools with students of years 1-3 and hosted by 3rd years’ Annie and Ivy, who are reading ambassadors for their school, Perth Grammar.
The morning was a celebration of reading. Four books had been chosen to be read and for which students voted. Pupils from four schools came on stage and gave a short synopsis of each book and how it made them feel. The winning book was “The Wrong Shoes” by Tom Percival which was described as “humorous, life’s choices, keeps you turning the pages and thought provoking.”
It was great to see so many young adults embracing the project and witnessing the enjoyment of reading and its importance to them.
The hosts definitely learned important life skills in meeting all the delegates and guests, whilst also managing and introducing the speakers and giving the vote of thanks to all attendees.
The Rotary Club of Perth is delighted to financially support this worthwhile event which was initiated in 2024.
